I just talked to the crew in Georgia... here is the first update. Things got rolling around 7:00 a.m. today. They broke Mendi's water, got the iv's started, all of that good stuff. Around 11:00 a.m., she got her epidural. Dean said that she said it was better than Sangria... I can't comment on that, as I don't think I've ever had Sangria. Anyway, they were going to be checking her progress soon. It sounds like the doctor is predicting an afternoon delivery.
We're having some fish troubles around here. I don't know if they've been sick for awhile or what... but, apparently the big move of the tank yesterday has pushed some of them to their limits. We lost my favorite one (a Sunshine Peacock) last night. I am pretty bummed about that. He was a beautiful fish, and Doug had nursed him back from sure death quite a few months ago. I had to catch two other fish this morning and move them into our hospital tank. "Big Daddy" and "Yellow" both look pretty bad... not sure what the problem is, but we are treating them right now. I hope that they both pull through. "Yellow" is our biggest one and is usually the king of the tank. It's sad to see him so lethargic and in obvious discomfort.
On a happier note, when Doug was cleaning out the tank yesterday, he discovered two baby fish! It seems that our breeding pair had done their thing without us even knowing. Unfortunately, Doug also found two dead babies... So, we don't know how many there really were. Last night after the tank was reassembled, Doug found another one miraculously swimming around. He caught it and put it with the other two... but, today, one was dead. So, ok... test your math skills... we're back to two babies.
Amanda has really been picking up on "nature" things lately. Last night, she, James and Doug were looking at a book that had zebras in it. She informed Doug that the zebras had stripes so that they could hide in the trees and grass. This morning, we were singing a song, and she wanted to sing about a baby frog. We started singing, and she stopped me. She said, "Actually, a baby frog is called a tadpole." So, we changed the lyrics and continued singing about tadpoles. She cracks me up!
I'll post the next update as soon as I receive it...
