Rough Day

Well, we have decided to have Oscar euthanized tomorrow morning. The appointment is for 8:30 a.m. Doug is going to take him and stay with him until the procedure is complete. Then, he will bring Oscar back here so that we can bury him in the backyard. It has been a day filled with ups and downs to say the very least. Oscar hasn't really eaten much of anything the last couple of days. Today, he just really seems to want to be by himself. He has tolerated us petting him for awhile, but not even as much as a few days ago. I just went in to pet him and give him a kiss, and I noticed that his right ear is very warm... perhaps some infection moving into it? I don't know.

I tried to make an attempt of explaining to Amanda that Oscar was very sick and that he would probably not be with us much longer. She didn't understand, bless her little heart. I told her that the bump on his shoulder was getting really big and that it was hurting him. She wanted to know why God couldn't fix it, like He did the bump that Oscar had on his belly. Then, I explained that after Oscar died, he wouldn't be with us anymore, but that he would be with God. I told her that we would bury his body in our yard and that we could visit him. She wanted to know if he would be playing in the backyard? I said that no, it would just be the shell of his body there... that his spirit would be with God in a brand new body with no bumps. She wanted to know if the new body would be orange, too? Boy, she doesn't miss a beat!! I don't know how I am going to get through tomorrow - especially when Doug takes him away. I know that I need to be strong for Amanda, but boy, I just don't know how to. I pray that God will get us all through tomorrow smoothly and that He will provide the right words for us when Amanda has questions. And, boy will she. She is full of them on a "regular" day (whatever that is).

In my continuation of working to keep my mind off of Oscar, I began to rip some more wallpaper out of the Family Room. We discovered that DIF Gel works pretty good for getting the paper off of the drywall. It is excruciatingly slow going, but at least some progress is being made. The Dining Room paneling is ready to be de-glossed and then Kilzed.
