Let's Roll

Well, it's amazing... I actually finished a book! Yes, I read it from cover to cover in less than a week. I had been wanting to read Lisa Beamer's book, "Let's Roll" for quite some time. It was on my mental "to read" list, and I had even thought about checking it out from the library a couple of weeks ago. Then, I thought... "...yeah right. I have several books in my reading pile at home already. Why do I need another one?" Well, God works in wonderful ways. Last week while at the library, we ventured into the bookstore where people donate books for the library to sell. I'm not sure what pulled me to that specific area, but something did... and staring me in the face was "Let's Roll." I purchased it for a mere 50 cents. The book was a very quick read... it was touching, inspiring, maddening at points. Honestly, I told myself shortly after September 11th that I could NOT let myself forget every detail of that day... to become complacent and take our freedoms and liberties for granted. I have, like probably most other Americans, become that way to a certain degree. But reading this book kind of snapped me back into the reality of the days that we live in...

I just saw online that baseball Hall-of-Famer Kirby Puckett (age 45) and Christopher Reeve's widow, Dana Reeve (age 44), have both died. This coupled with reading about the fate of Todd Beamer and the others on the ill-fated Flight 93 makes me even more aware that we must live every day to its fullest. Don't get too focused on the annoyances that never seem to completely disappear from the day's activities... but, instead, focus on the blessings that God has given us - the sunshine, the animals, the plants, our wonderful country, our family and friends... and of course more than anything, the promise of eternal life through His precious son, Jesus.

Let's Roll!
